All Hasselblad cameras and film magazines, as well as some other Hasselblad items, bear a two or three letter code in front of, or incorporated into, the serial number. Two of these letters are used to encrypt the year of manufacture. The digits indicate the decennium and year in which the item was produced. Hasselblad F serial number with two letter year code “CH”, which translates to 19 This system was adopted just before the middle of the 20th century, and the assumed prefix representing the century then was “19”.
The new millenium of course changed the prefix from “19” to “20”. This method of coding does not provide a way to tell what century prefix to add. We just have to remember that it was first used in the late ‘s, and that years later than “49” upto and including “99” should be prefixed by “19”. All years earlier than “50” will need the prefix “20”.
Victor Hasselblad learned about this method of coding at Eastman Kodak’s.

Late in a significant departure was made from the format of the preceding era when a completely different design was introduced. The style — a predominantly silver box – was used for the next 45 years with a number of ongoing changes in the style. In the interior of the box, the corrugated cardboard spacers of earlier boxes were replaced with Styrofoam which was molded to surround the body, magazine and lens of the newly introduced C camera.
The black base of the box has a blue C in the left hand corner on all four sides. A spacer on the bottom of the box was also provided — the purpose of which is unclear.

Almost six grand is still expensive, but it makes the X1D II far more competitive with the medium format mirrorless cameras Fujifilm has released over the past couple of years, which sell for as little as half the price of the first X1D. The company says the start up time on the X1D II has been reduced by 46 percent, continuous shooting has been sped up by 35 percent, and the live view frame rate has been increased by 62 percent.
The major upgrade is the inclusion of a 3. The electronic viewfinder is still an OLED screen, but it now boasts 55 percent more pixels and a larger magnification than before. Hasselblad has also developed a new ability to tether over a USB-C cable to an iPad, a first for a medium format camera. This works with the 2nd and 3rd generation iPad Pro models, and allows for fast, reliable image transfer to the iPad when shooting.
Otherwise, the image sensor and autofocus system remain unchanged, so existing X1D owners should not pick up the X1D II expecting an upgrade on those fronts. The megapixel CMOS sensor has been used in a number of Hasselblad cameras over the years, and the contrast-based autofocus system is still a bit slower than the phase detect systems that are prevalent on smaller format systems.
In addition to the X1D II, Hasselblad is also announcing a new digital back for its V System cameras and a new camera body that is basically a digital back with the ability to mount a lens directly to it — no need for a mirrorbox in between. It has the same tilting touchscreen found on the X body.
